Rochester police say a car that was left running at a business on East Ridge Road was stolen with a three-month-old child in the back.

The car was taken Tuesday just after 2:00 p.m. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded because of the child, and the suspect vehicle was spotted and Ridge Road and Dewey Avenue within about 20 minutes. The driver tried to escape and officers gave chase, but carefully because of the child.

The driver crashed after missing the sharp turn at Pattonwood Road and St. Paul Boulevard in Irondequoit. The child was rescued by officers and State Troopers. The suspect was caught at the scene. The child was sent to the hospital to be checked out, but appeared to be uninjured.

Police are still trying to sort out just what happened.
