A couple from Hilton somehow escaped after their car crashed into Irondequoit Bay late Saturday night.
Webster Police say speed and alcohol may have been factors, but no charges have been filed yet. They say the car came down Lake Road going westbound, crashed through the barricade at the Bay Outlet Bridge and launched into the water. The seasonal bridge has not yet been swung into place connecting the two ends of Lake Road between Webster and Irondequoit for the winter.
Both the driver and passenger were able to get out before the car sank and were pulled out of the water by people on the shore. The Monroe County Sheriff’s SCUBA Team got the car out of the bay.
Police have not released the names of the driver and his passenger, both of whom were in their 30s.
