The first African-American man to serve as a Rochester police officer has died at the age of 98. He passed away on Monday

Captain Charlie Price began with the RPD in 1947, rising through the ranks to retire as a captain in 1985. He was presented with a ceremonial sword by Mayor Lovely Warren in 2019 for the department’s bicentennial.

Captain Price also trained with the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II.

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren issued a statement saying in part: “Along the way, he blazed a trail and set an example of excellence for other officers to follow.”
