A knocked-over candle triggered a fire at the Ambassador Apartments on South Union Street on Sunday afternoon.
The Rochester Fire Department says the candle fell on some clothes which caught fire, filling the fourth-floor apartment with smoke. Residents of all 54 units in the building were able to evacuate safely, but two cats died in the fire. Damage was confined to the apartment where the fire broke out.
One firefighters suffered a minor burn and was treated at Strong Memorial Hospital.
