Canandaigua Police thwarted a suicide attempt yesterday when a man tried to hang himself from the former Steamboat Landing building on Lakeshore Drive, now a construction site.
Police and the Canandaigua Fire Department responded to a 911 call and found a 21-year-old man on the edge of the building. He’d attached a chain to the building and around his neck. Police weren’t able to verbally engage the man, who tried to jump when they approached.
Police rushed him and were able to grab the man and drag him back into the building. He was taken to Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua for evaluation.
