The City of Canandaigua has dismissed its fire chief.
Chief Mark Marentette was suspended for 30 days without pay in January after accusations of what city officials called “insubordination, misconduct and incompetence.” He was reinstated in February pending the outcome of an investigation. The Canandaigua City Manager’s office confirms the investigation was completed and Chief Marentette was let go on Friday. The firing was at the recommendation of a Civil Service hearing officer.
Much of the case reportedly hinged on handling of purchase orders and time sheets, plus handling of an emergency response a year-and-a-half ago at City Pier.
Marentette had been fire chief since 2011. Mayor Ellen Polimeni says the city will search for a new chief through the civil service process.
