An explosion and fire hit a bagel shop in Penfield Thursday morning.
According to the Penfield Fire Department, the blast around 5:00 a.m. blew out several windows and a glass door at the Bruegger’s Bagels on Penfield Road. Two employees were in the store at the time and were checked out by first responders, but were uninjured. The store had not yet opened for business.
The fire department said employees had trouble getting an oven to start by a timer, and when they tried to switch it on manually, the explosion occurred. The resulting fire heavily damaged the store but the rest of the plaza was undamaged.
RG&E and the Monroe County Fire Bureau are investigating.
