A large sinkhole opened up on French Road near Quaker Road in Pittsford today…closing French Road from Monroe Avenue to Quaker.
The Monroe County Water Authority says they don’t know what caused the break yet…but they say sinkholes are common when this happens as the water washes the earth out from under the street.
About 20 homes in the neighborhood lost water service, but repair crews were able to give them temporary hookups while they patched the broken pipe. The road reopened about 5 p.m.
