The chief of the SUNY Brockport police department says his department and officers will no longer display the “Blue LIne” flag, originally designed to show support for fallen officers.
Chief Dan Vasile says in a letter to the Brockport Community that the flag has been co-opted by some hate groups who have changed its message.
The flag, black-and-white with a thin blue stripe representing law enforcement, was first adopted 50 years ago to honor officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. White supremacists, however, have begun using the flag in opposition to the Black Lives Matter movement.
