Here is your chance to have a professional athlete visit your school.
The Rochester Knighthawks are offering three FREE programs to all schools in Monroe County: Healthy Hawks, We Got Your Back and Lacrosse 101. The community initiatives, which range in topics from healthy living to anti-bullying, are conducted by a Knighthawks player and include great student-player interaction.
“It’s a lot of fun to meet all of our young fans and teach them important life lessons,” said Knighthawks player and former RIT standout Brad Gillies. “Each program allows us to reach kids in different ways.”
Healthy Hawks, which is sponsored by UR Medicine, is a program designed to educate students on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The event includes a presentation by a Knighthawks player, along with a question and answer session. Each student will also receive a booklet containing healthy facts, ways to stay active, recipes, a poster, and a voucher good for a Rochester Knighthawks 2017 home game.
The Knighthawks anti-bullying program, We Got Your Back, teaches kids how to identify types of bullying, how to handle bullying situations, and where to go for help. It is estimated that about 30 percent of students in sixth through 10th grade in the United States are involved in bullying on a regular basis. As part of the program, sponsored by Wellington Steele & Associates, each kid will receive an anti-bullying booklet which includes a voucher for a free ticket.

Lacrosse 101 brings the sport of lacrosse into your school as the kids learn about the game and get to use a lacrosse stick for the first time. As part of the program, members of the Knighthawks will arrive at your school with sticks, nets and balls. Each session includes fun activities like relay races and shooting contests. Every kid will also leave with a ticket voucher for a 2017 home game.
“Through the Lacrosse 101 program we get to bring a new sport to the kids and it’s something they really seem to enjoy,” said Gillies.
Over the past four seasons, the Knighthawks have talked to over 25,000 students about staying active, playing lacrosse and eliminating bullying.
