Brighton Supervisor Bill Moehle took to Twitter this afternoon…urging Wegmans to cancel its expansion plans into North Carolina until that state’s legislature repeals HB-2…the law restricting transsexual rights.

The whole North Carolina fuss began when the City of Charlotte adopted an anti-discrimination law that included LGTBQs among those whose rights should be respected. The state legislature’s Republican majority immediately adopted HB2, banning such local laws.

North Carolina lawmakers debated, but didn’t repeal the so-called “bathroom bill” on Wednesday. Some businesses and sporting events have canceled plans to come to North Carolina because they disagree with it.

Democratic supervisor Bill Moehle’s Tweet brought one in  reply from Wegmans, saying “No plans to cancel our stores at this time. We feel that is not a way to influence change.”

Moehle says appreciates the quick response but disagrees with Wegmans. He says Wegmans has an opportunity to send a strong message against hate.
