Brighton Police are working with a woman attempting to locate her birth mother, and who believes she was the once the baby at the center of a highly-publicized abandoned child case.
The woman, who asks to be identified only as “Lori,” is likely “Baby Lilac,” who was left outside an apartment on Highland Avenue in Brighton 40 years ago.
The baby was found by Judy McKeever, who heard crying and went outside to find the baby abandoned in a cardboard box. An extensive Brighton police investigation failed to identify the birth mother and “Baby Lilac” was eventually adopted. (photo: Judy McKeever and Lori).
Now the woman who believes she was Baby Lilac has obtained the case records through the Freedom of Information Act and met with Brighton Police Chief Mark Henderson. Lori has found records stating that she was a “foundling” and adopted in Monroe County in 1978, the same year Baby Lilac was abandoned.
Chief Henderson is asking that anyone who might be able to help Lori find her birth mother contact him at (585) 784-5101 or by email mark.henderson@townofbrighton.org.
