A Brighton man who lost his handgun in Buckland Park has surrendered his pistol permit and handed in his guns, but he will not face any charges according to Brighton Police. The town is also posting signs at the entrances to its parks advising that firearms and dangerous objects are prohibited by town law.
A Monroe County Court Judge suspended Chaim Diskind’s carry permit after his loaded 9-millimeter pistol fell out of his holster last week while he was at a youth soccer game. A woman found it in the grass near a playground and called the police.
While police were securing the gun, the 47-year-old Brighton man approached the officers and told them what happened. Finding the gun was legally registered, the officers returned it to him but also submitted the case for review.
The judge ruled that Diskind had failed to be responsible for the weapon and suspended his permit. Brighton law bans carrying guns in town parks, but Brighton Police Chief Mark Henderson says after finding there were no signs to that effect, they decided not to bring any charges against him.
