Budgets passed Tuesday night in most suburban Rochester school districts, with two key exceptions: voters in Brighton failed to come up with a supermajority to let the district override the state tax cap; meanwhile in Brockport, the budget failed for the second time in four years, partly due to a dispute between the district and its teachers’ aides.
The Brighton budget failed by 1617 to 1335 (it needed a 60% majority to override New York’s two percent cap on property tax increases). The Brockport budget failed by a vote of 524 to 611.
The Greece budget passed by 1645 to 608 votes. Terry Melore, Robert LaPlaca and Michael Valincenti were elected to the school board.
