Brian Gionta signed a one-year contract with the Boston Bruins on Sunday, making him eligible to participate in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The 39-year-old forward signed for $700,000.
Gionta had not been playing in the NHL this season, but did serve as captain for the United States men’s hockey team at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. He played in all five games for the United States, which was eliminated by the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals.
He last played in the NHL in 2016-17 with the Buffalo Sabres, appearing in 82 regular-season games and scoring 35 points (15 goals, 20 assists).
Gionta has 588 points (289 goals, 299 assists) in 1,006 regular-season games over 15 seasons with Buffalo, the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils. He has 68 points (32 goals, 36 assists) in 112 Stanley Cup Playoff games. .
He was selected by the Devils in the third round (No. 82) of the 1998 NHL Draft.
