Interim Monroe County Elections Commissioner LaShana Boose has pulled her name out of contention for the post. The Monroe County Democratic Party Committee votes later this month on a permanent commissioner. Boose has been serving as interim since March.
Boose said in a statement she was pulling her candidacy after City Council Member Jackie Ortiz announced for the position. Boose says she fells it’s imperative for Black and Brown people to work together. She says she’ll support Ortiz and put her own agenda aside. Boose said she “will not tear down another woman of color when there’s room for both of us at the table.”
Both Boose and Republican Commissioner Lisa Nicolay took criticism after the June 23rd primary, when some election districts handed out wrong ballots. They said being forced by the pandemic to consolidate more than 100 election districts down to 30 caused confusion at some locations, but overall the election ran smoothly.
