The body of a Henrietta man was recovered from Irondequoit Bay early Sunday morning, hours after a canoe tipped over about 100 yards from shore.
Three men were in the canoe when it flipped off the Stony Point Marina on the Webster side of the bay. There were flotation devices in the canoe but nobody was wearing one. Two of the men came up and were able to swim to shore and call for help. The third man didn’t resurface.
Monroe County and State Police dive teams recovered his body after a lengthy search and turned it over to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification. The water temperature was just above freezing.
