Several water rescue teams responded yesterday when waves capsized a boat in Lake Ontario, two miles off the Sodus Bay Channel.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, the Coast Guard and fire departments from North Rose and and Sodus Point all responded. They say the 19 foot outboard took several heavy seas over the stern, filled with water and flipped over. Operator Mark Wilson of Sodus and passenger Michael Fischette of Rochester had on their life jackets and jumped before the boat went over.
Another boater saw what happened, called 911 and helped the two men get out of the water. The Marine Patrol brought them ashore and recovered their boat. Wilson was ticketed for operating an unregistered vessel.
