The Ontario County Health Department has detected blue green algae in Honeoye Lake, and has declared a swimming ban for Sandy Bottom Beach in the Town of Richmond.
Some kinds of blue green algae produce a toxin which can pose health risks to people and animals if exposed in large enough quantities.
The beach will remain closed until the state Department of Health decides it’s safe to swim.
