A blogger’s report about 911 emergency dispatchers sleeping on the job in Rochester has triggered an official investigation.
Blogger Davy Vara posted photos on his site this week he says were given to him by an anonymous source. They show operators dozing and slumped over at their desks in the 911 Center with their headsets on. Vara says he was told this is not a rare ocurrence.
911 Operating Center Director John Merklinger says his office has
launched an internal investigation to determine the authenticity of the photos…and if they’re genuine, when the staff members were asleep. He confirms the photos appear to show five current staff members who work the midnight to 8:00 a.m. shift and says appropriate disciplinary action will be taken if the accusations hold up.
Merklinger says they’re not aware of any harm done to the public because of dispatchers sleeping on the job.
