Black bears ( possibly the same one) have been spotted in this week in the Victor-Farmington-Canandaigua area, and in Pittsford as documented by people who caught them on video and posted the images to social media.
Pittsford Central Schools say they’ve contacted the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Environmental Conservation for advice. In the meantime, they say they’ll be canceling outdoor event, since the bear was seen near several of its school buildings.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says bears wander for food, which includes unsecured garbage cans, bird feeders and pet food left on back steps. The DEC doesn’t get involved unless a bear gets into a building or poses a risk to humans.
