Over a five-hour session on Thursday, Roman Catholic Bishop Salvatore Matano responded to questions from survivors of clergy sexual abuse and their attorneys, in a process meant to lead to a settlement in the bankruptcy case filed by the Diocese of Rochester.
It was a frequently emotional meeting as the bishop apologized to survivors, and fielded questions about the district’s finances, assets and policies to protect today’s children. Matano apologized personally to each survivor.
The information will be used by a committee of nine survivors appointed to represent survivor interests as creditors in the bankruptcy case.
