It’s the Buffalo Bills who have the decision to make on the option on Tyrod Taylor’s contract. In an appearance on the John Murphy Show, Taylor said he’d like to return to the Bills, but knows it’s a wait-and-see situation for him.
Bills Insider Chris Brown provides the details. Here is his report:
The Bills new coaching regime along with the front office has a big offseason decision to make at the most important position on the field. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor has a well-publicized team option on his contract, and a decision must be made by March 11th, which will decide Taylor and the team’s near future at the position. With the call not in his hands, Taylor would prefer to be back with Buffalo, he just has to wait and see.
“Of course,” said Taylor in an appearance on the John Murphy Show. “I know the team very well. I know how close we are as a team. I know the talent that we have on the team. We can be a very special team, especially with the right leadership, and I believe we have some coaches in that are definitely ready to go out there and make us work and get things turned around. So definitely looking forward to seeing what they can bring.”
Taylor, who has been rehabbing from elective groin surgery last month, has been in town to work with the team’s medical and athletic training staff. It’s afforded him the opportunity to meet members of the new coaching staff.
“I’ve seen just about all the offensive staff, quarterback coach (David Culley) included,” said Taylor. “The conversation isn’t about necessarily contract, it’s more so just getting to know each other.”
Taylor does have familiarity with one key member of the coaching staff, offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, with whom he worked in Baltimore back in 2014. Dennison was the Ravens quarterbacks coach that year when Taylor was a backup to Joe Flacco.
“He’s a great coach. A great person as well,” said Taylor of Dennison.
It’s expected that Dennison will implement the same offensive system Taylor was exposed to in Baltimore under then offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.
“Definitely familiar with that system,” Taylor said. “My focus right now isn’t really on the contract situation or what’s going to happen, it’s mostly about just being healthy. It’s just a sit-and-wait game right now.”
