Buffalo addressed its thin ranks at linebacker by making a trade with the Green Bay Packers Tuesday.
Bills Insider Chris Brown provides the details. Here is his report:
The Bills addressed their thin ranks at linebacker by making a trade with the Green Bay Packers Tuesday. Buffalo acquired OLB Lerentee McCray in exchange for an undisclosed draft choice in 2018.
McCray, 6-2, 246, was signed by Green Bay this past April after he was not retained by the Denver Broncos following their win in Super Bowl 50. The 26-year old was originally signed as an undrafted rookie in 2013 by Denver. He spent his first NFL season on injured reserve, but has appeared in 24 games over the past two seasons with the Broncos, including four playoff games.
He has 19 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a pass breakup, and four special teams tackles in his career.
The Bills were looking for outside linebacker help early in training camp as the absence of Shaq Lawson (offseason shoulder surgery) and Manny Lawson (pectoral injury) left them with just a pair of undrafted rookies. They subsequently signed veteran free agent Kroy Biermann midway through training camp. Now they’ve added McCray via trade.
McCray is very familiar with the outside linebacker role in a 3-4 scheme having lined up in them under Wade Phillips in Denver and the whole offseason under Dom Capers in Green Bay.
