Bills LB Zach Brown is meeting with Buffalo’s new coaching staff as he makes a free agent visit Wednesday.
Buffalo Bills Insider Chris Brown provides the details. Here is his report:
Here’s the Bills news of note for March 22.
1 – Zach Brown visiting Bills
Bills linebacker Zach Brown has met with the Raiders and Dolphins on free agent visits over the past week. Today he’s meeting with the team he played for last season. Buffalobills.com has confirmed that Brown is in town and meeting with Buffalo’s new coaching staff.
No word at this point as to whether this is the last stop on Brown’s free agent tour before he makes a decision on where to sign.
Oakland is in the market for a linebacker after losing both Daren Bates and Malcolm Smith in free agency to other NFL clubs. They did sign LB Jelani Jenkins this week.
Miami meanwhile lost Jenkins to Oakland, but signed free agent Lawrence Timmons and just re-signed Kiko Alonso to a long-term extension.
Thus far this offseason Buffalo has re-signed linebackers Lorenzo Alexander and Ramon Humber. LB Lerentee McCray signed with Jacksonville.
2 – Andre Holmes’ European stay-cation
Everyone knows how former L.A. Lakers star Kobe Bryant spent a good portion of his childhood in Spain where his dad Joe ‘Jellybean’ Bryant played pro basketball. Buffalo’s newest wide receiver had a similar experience as a young boy.
Andre Holmes’ father Kevin Holmes played professional basketball in a few different European countries when Andre was a young boy.
“I lived in Europe up until second grade,” said Holmes. “I kind of went back and forth when it was the basketball season in Europe.”
Holmes spent time living in Belgium, Israel, Spain and Switzerland, while his dad played in the European leagues.
“I don’t remember a lot,” he said. “Mostly I remember when I lived in Israel in first grade, because I remember going on tours to Jerusalem and Bethlehem in first grade. All the pictures my parents took and the video footage they took kind of sparks my memory living out there. If it wasn’t for those things I wouldn’t remember much.”
When Holmes turned seven, that’s when his parents decided a full time education in the United States was best.
“When I got to second grade my parents decided they wanted myself and my brother to stay in the States and get a stable education in the States instead of out in Europe,” he said.
3 – Latest mock goes cornerback for Bills
There have been a host of different choices by the draftniks for the Bills at pick 10 overall in round one of their mock drafts. Wide receiver and quarterback have been the most popular thus far, but FOXSports.com’s Peter Schrager went in a different direction.
Schrager went cornerback at 10 for Buffalo, selecting Ohio State CB Marshon Lattimore. Here was his reasoning for the pick.
Lattimore could go anywhere from No. 2 to 15 in this draft, and I think Buffalo is a sweet spot at 10. The loss of Stephon Gilmore opens a need at the cornerback spot, and Lattimore could be the perfect battery mate with Ronald Darby. A 6-foot uber-athlete who can do it all, Lattimore overcame hamstring issues to win the starting job in 2016 and excel, earning All-Big Ten honors.
In round two of his mock he chose Louisiana Tech WR Carlos Henderson, a receiver with one year of great production at Tech, but who needs route running polish.
