The Bills made use of an open roster spot to sign TE Logan Thomas off the Detroit Lions practice squad. Drafted as a quarterback two years ago, Thomas is transitioning to the tight end position.

Buffalo Bills Insider Chris Brown provides the details. Here is his report:

After a day of busy roster moves, Buffalo’s latest one may prove to be the most interesting. Buffalo signed TE Logan Thomas on Wednesday. The Bills signed him off the Detroit Lions practice squad where he had just signed earlier this week.

Thomas (6-foot-6, 250 lbs.) was drafted out of Virginia Tech as a quarterback by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft. He appeared in two games for the Cardinals in his rookie season completing one of eight pass attempts for 81 yards and a touchdown. He’s also spent time on the rosters of the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants.

But with the opportunity to play quarterback scarce in the league, Thomas is undertaking a major position switch in the hopes of getting an NFL opportunity. That opportunity to be on a 53-man roster may have come sooner than expected with the Bills as he transitions to the tight end position.

According to reports out of Detroit, Thomas has plans to attend a training facility in the offseason to better grasp the nuances of the tight end position.

Thomas has some experience as a pass catcher having played some receiver during his sophomore year at Virginia Tech.

At the 2014 NFL Combine, Thomas ran a 4.61 40-time, had a 35 ½-inch vertical leap, a nine-foot, eight-inch broad jump and a 7.05-second three cone drill.

The Bills had an open spot on their 53-man roster after Seantrel Henderson was moved to the Reserve/Suspended list following his league-imposed 10-game suspension.

Bills add guard to practice squad
The Bills also announced that the team has signed G Isame Faciane (pronounced I-sem FA-shawn) to the team’s practice squad.

Faciane, a 6-4, 302-pound Florida International product, originally entered the NFL in 2014 as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings. While with the Vikings practice squad, Faciane transitioned from playing defensive line to offensive line. A native of Slidell, Louisana, Faciane earned Honorable Mention All-Conference USA honors during his collegiate career.
