The Bills announced on Thursday they’ve released offensive lineman Conor McDermott.
McDermott, a massive 6-foot-8 tackle, has been with the club the last three seasons appearing in eight games. He has been inactive each of the first four games for the Bills this season. The Bills originally signed him after he was drafted by the Patriots.
But onto the fun stuff, the speculation because the Bills haven’t yet announced a corresponding move.
Two thoughts exist here.
Josh Allen is currently in the concussion protocol. On Thursday, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott said he was only a limited participant in practice. Allen is currently in the fourth stage of five stages in the protocol, but if Allen clears by Sunday’s Week 5 meeting with the Titans, that’d be an awfully quick bounce back.
So with that in mind, is McDermott’s spot going to practice squad QB Davis Webb to backup Matt Barkley on Sunday?
But according to The Athletic, it could mean something else. Wide receiver Duke Williams has caught the attention of many fans from his performances in the preseason. He’s also caught some cameras during practices and then finally caught Joe Buscaglia’s attention on Thursday, who reported Williams was participating in special teams drills.
