PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Bills were back on the gridiron yesterday, and it was a day with several storylines, especially from the quarterback position.
Both AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman were banged up late in practice. McCarron appeared to injure his right leg, as the veteran QB limped over to trainers, sat out for several minutes, and then only took a few more reps before heading back to medical staff.
Peterman seemed to get hurt on his final play. He was tripped up and fell on his throwing arm, and he was reportedly seen testing his arm with trainers.
The second-year quarterback, who started against Carolina on Thursday, took most of the first-team reps throughout practice. However, rookie Josh Allen took some too – something he hasn’t done in more than a week.
In typical Sean McDermott fashion, the head coach refused to name the starter for Friday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
“I’m not going to go there for Friday…” said the second-year head coach. “I think you guys get the gist by now. We’re going to take it one day at a time…The great part is it’s a healthy competition – all three played well the other night. I like the progression of what they’ve done since spring. I think they’re all growing and learning. It’s a very respectful group of guys – respectful of each other and respectful of the situation.”
Some other items of note: Zay Jones took a lot of reps with the first team offense even though he’s still wearing a non-contact jersey. There was a fight yesterday that seemed to mainly involve offensive lineman Jordan Mills against defensive lineman Jerry Hughes. Free agent signing Trent Murphy was back on the field in a limited role.
The Bills were on the field at 8:45 this morning…but the practice was closed to the public.
