Zay Jones’ absence may open a door for fellow receiver Brandon Reilly

The Buffalo Bills tweeted on Wednesday, “We’ve placed WR Zay Jones on the Active/Non-Football Injury list and released DT Tenny Palepoi.”

Jones, 23, had quite the offseason; unfortunately highlighted by a very odd incident in a Los Angeles hotel with his brother, Cayleb. Along with that situation, Jones also underwent knee surgery that prematurely forced him out of the team’s spring workouts.

Buffalo’s second-round pick in 2017 appeared in 15 games in his rookie campaign last year, starting 10 of those games. He hauled in 27 receptions for 316 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but did struggle to find any consistency throughout the season.

His absence from training camp may pose as a serious chance for fellow wide receiver Brandon Reilly to attain some considerable looks from the coaching staff.

As for Palepoi, the defensive tackle spent three previous seasons with the San Diego / Los Angeles Chargers (2014, 2016-17) where he appeared in 44 career games. Despite those appearances, he never recorded a career start while out on the West coast.

Palepoi accounted for one career fumble recovery, one sack and 35 tackles for the Chargers.

Training camp officially kicks off for the Bills on Thursday at 5:30 pm from St. John Fisher College in Pittsford.
