With the NFL trade deadline approaching, one of the first teams to make a trade that directly affects the Bills became the New England Patriots on Tuesday.
The Pats have acquired a playmaker for quarterback Tom Brady, landing wide receiver Mohamed Sanu in a deal with the Falcons on Tuesday.
Per Patriots Wire, the Patriots sent a second-round pick the other way to make the deal happen.
Sanu joins a Patriots wideout room which has been a bit beat up at times this season and not exactly the deepest Brady has had in recent years. New England has Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, Phillip Dorsett, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski, and first-round rookie N’Keal Harry, who is on the injury reserve list and is eligibility to return as soon as Week 9. In addition, the Patriots finally started making use of vet tight end Benjamin Watson.
In 2019, Sanu, 30, has 33 receptions, 313 yards and a touchdown. Sanu can lineup both inside and outside of offensive formations as well.
The Bills and Patriots meet again in Week 16. After their Week 4 meeting, it’s fair for Bills fans to wonder if Buffalo played a part in the Pats giving away a second rounder for Sanu.
New England won that meeting, but only by a 16-10 score which also included Bills QB Josh Allen exiting the game due to injury. Brady was held to 150 passing yards and no touchdowns by the Bills defense, who are currently ranked the No. 3 defense in the NFL, which also happens to be the best-remaining defense the Patriots will have to face this season.
