Buffalo Bills Insider Chris Brown provides the details. Here is his report:
Bills GM Brandon Beane didn’t take long to begin filling out his front office staff. Less than a week after being named Buffalo’s general manager, Beane named Joe Schoen the team’s assistant GM.
Schoen had been in the Miami Dolphins front office for the better part of the last decade, serving the last three as Dolphins Director of Player Personnel.
In his role as Miami’s director of player personnel, Schoen served as a primary advisor to Dolphins General Manager Chris Grier on all personnel matters.
Schoen spent the 2013 season as the Dolphins assistant director of college scouting after serving the first five years with Miami as one of the team’s national scouts.
He was one of the chief overseers of the Dolphins roster, and also managed both the college and pro scouting departments.
Schoen additionally led Miami’s preparation, assessment and acquisition of potential professional and collegiate free agents. He spearheaded NFL draft preparations including evaluation and draft board construction while also serving as a key liaison between the coaching staff and personnel staff.
Schoen previously worked with Beane in Carolina (2001-2007) where he first served as a scouting assistant and rose through the ranks to National Scout before joining the Dolphins organization in 2008.
A three-year football letterman during his college days at DePauw University (1997-2000), Schoen played both quarterback and wide receiver.
