Marv Levy was pulling the strings for the Buffalo Bills’ early-90’s dynasty.

Levy, 93, holds the team record for wins with 112 and is a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee. Athlon Sports put Levy on another high platform last week.

Trying to pick the top-25 head coaches in NFL history, Levy made an appearance in that list with the likes of Vince Lombardi, Bill Walsh and Chuck Noll. Levy landed No. 23 on the list.

Here’s what Athlon Sports wrote about Levy’s placement:

23. Marv Levy
Kansas City 1978-82; Buffalo 1986-97
143-112 (17 years), 11-8 in playoffs
6 division titles
4 Super Bowl appearances (XXV, XXVI, XXVII, XXVIII)
Pro Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2001

How do you make it to four straight Super Bowls? Through great coaching. Despite coming up short on Super Sunday, Levy’s Bills went 58-19 (including playoffs) from 1990-93.

Levy’s placement is certainly deserved as a Hall of Famer and one of the key figures of one of the NFL’s best dynasties. Levy’s second stint with the Bills as their general manager didn’t quite go according to plan, but nonetheless his stirring game day speeches will be known by Bills fans for years to come.

Still, the list is a bit painful.

Lombardi is slated second on the list, he’s sandwiched in between two divisional foes. Former Dolphins coach Don Shula at three and current Patriots coach Bill Belichick at one.

We’ll appreciate Levy’s selection, though.
