The Bills are hoping for more out of Trent Murphy this season.

In 2018, Buffalo had 36 sacks as a team, tied for 26th best in the NFL.

Murphy, 28, was supposed to improve things there but the proof is in the numbers, the Bills still rank among the NFL’s worst. Murphy came to the Bills last season via free agency off of an ACL injury with the Redskins. Now a full year removed from that injury, the Bills hope to see more.

According to Buffalo defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, things are different for Murphy this year and the Bills finally could see what they paid for in the defender.

“It’s night and day when you see his movement in the drills and the fact that he’s able to practice every day, which he wasn’t able to do a season ago about this time,” Frazier said on Tuesday. “We’re going to get more of the guy we saw when we signed him in free agency.”

Prior to joining the Bills, Murphy sat out the 2017 season with a knee injury. In 2016, he had nine sacks which landed him with Buffalo.

Earlier this offseason, Murphy said he’s put his struggles of last season with the Bills, where he only had four sacks, behind him.

“I think last season is closed and in the books for the most part,” Murphy said during voluntary offseason practices.
