The NFL’s 2018 trade deadline is 20 days away and the name LeSean McCoy and the Buffalo Bills will be attached at the hip until then.
According to a report on Tuesday, McCoy’s former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, reached out to the Bills in regard to his availability via trade. The 30-year-old running back was traded to the Bills from the Eagles in March 2015 and the report was the second time in less than a year that the Eagles have reportedly had interest in getting McCoy back.
On Wednesday, both McCoy and his head coach, Sean McDermott, discussed the recent rumor and neither said anything that would put those rumblings to rest.
“I just kind of stay focused on the job and task at hand. I let that stuff work itself out. We’ll see what happens,” McCoy said.
A “we’ll see” response doesn’t seem like one someone who is closed off to the idea of being traded would say. His coach’s words were more about what he didn’t say as well.
“LeSean’s one of our better players. I thought he had a good game the other day. We’re just looking forward to playing the Houston Texans. We get calls all the time. Incoming calls all the time. [General manager] Brandon (Beane) and I talk a lot. I won’t go into any more detail than that,” McDermott said.
Both McCoy and more so McDermott had an opportunity to shoot down the rumors but instead opted to not comment on them. Nothing could come from the rumors, but for now, they’ll continue to fester until the Oct. 30 trade deadline day.
“I’m not going to get into [if a call was made from the Eagles to Bills about McCoy]. That’s for my agent and the guys upstairs to work that out,” McCoy said. “I’m not going to engage in the whole… questions about the trade. We’ll see what happens.”
For now, McDermott, McCoy and Bills fans will just have to wait and see how things play out. If there’s one more all three are waiting, it’s Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane. He’s the one that would pull the trigger.
In the meantime, the 30-year-old running back who is under contact with the Bills through next season, said he’s just going to focus on his on-field work, something he’s had to do throughout the offseason and start to the 2018 season while dealing with his various league issues.
“I just stay focused,” McCoy said. “I don’t pay attention to it too much, I should’ve never gotten traded anyway, I was killin’ stuff. I don’t really never pay attention to it, this week we got the Texans, so we’ll just worry about that.”
McCoy is fresh off his best game with the Bills this season as he took 24 carries for 85 yards against the Tennessee Titans last week. Prior to that game, McCoy only had 21 carries through three games.
