The Bills were faced with the threat of losing restricted free agent Ryan Groy to the Los Angeles Rams, but matched the offer sheet he signed with the NFC West club.
Buffalo Bills Insider Chris Brown provides the details. Here is his report:
The Bills were not about to let one of their young, developing offensive linemen walked out the door.
On Thursday, Buffalo matched the Los Angeles Rams offer sheet signed by OL Ryan Groy to keep the versatile offensive lineman on the Bills roster.
It was a reported two-year offer sheet that Groy signed on Tuesday. The Bills had five days to match the offer or lose Groy to the Rams with no compensation in return.
Groy proved to be a valuable reserve lineman last season and most notably stepped in for C Eric Wood to start in the pivot for the final seven games of the season.
The upcoming 2017 season will be the third in Buffalo for the 26-year old lineman, who has lined up at center, guard, and tackle in his time with the Bills.
