The status of Buffalo’s 2nd round 2016 draft pick is uncertain at this time.

Speaking to the media prior to the blue and white scrimmage on Saturday evening, Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan gave an update to the status of second-round draft pick Reggie Ragland. He expressed concern over Ragland’s condition, but could not offer any details on the extend of the injury.

During an 11-on-11 team period on Friday, LB Reggie Ragland pursued the ball carrier to the left edge of the defensive formation. As he came to wrap up the rusher and tag him off he appeared to step on the foot of the ball carrier, causing his left knee to buckle. Ragland then began hopping off to the side immediately on his right foot and promptly sat down on the field.

Immediately following the injury, Ryan had expressed confidence that there was no ligament damage to Ragland’s knee. However today, when asked if that were still the case, Ryan was not able to confirm that the knee was free from structural damage.

“You know I’m not real sure. I guess I was just so hopeful that there was not going to be ligament things” said Ryan. My understanding is that as you get going, your leg is so tight, they’ll fight it, so you don’t get a true look of that. As we’ve mentioned we have to wait for that swelling to go down. I know every Bill fan out there is hoping for the best and certainly that’s what we’re doing, but there is concern.”

Since the Bills are forced to take a wait and see approach to Ragland, Ryan acknowledged that the team would look for outside help in order to sure up the defensive unit.

“We’ll have some guys come in, work some guys out tomorrow, see how that goes. Just in case,” Ryan said.
