These players could still find themselves traded for other players or future draft picks during the summer

Despite the influx of eight new draft picks this April, the Buffalo Bills still have some high profile holes on their roster, specifically at wide receiver. General Manager Brandon Beane knows this, and he also knows he has certain players that, for whatever reason, won’t be a part of the team’s future. Fans are also well aware that Beane isn’t one to shy away from trades late in the offseason. With that tendency in mind, here are some of the players that could be shipped off this summer in a bid to pursue better assets.
Shaq Lawson, defensive end
Since being drafted in the first round by former Bills GM Doug Whaley, Lawson has been a disappointment when he’s managed to get on the field (and has also missed time with injuries). The former Clemson Tiger can hold the edge in the run game, but isn’t a guy who can threaten left tackles off the edge in pass rush situations. With his first-round pedigree and still young age at 24, Lawson could fetch a decent price in the trade market for a team willing to take a chance on him. Fellow 2016 draftee Reggie Ragland netted a future fourth rounder, Lawson could be worth more.
Adolphus Washington, defensive tackle
Another disappointing Whaley draft pick, Washington has played well in spurts but has never managed to put forth consistent effort. With the Bills bringing in Star Lotulelei and drafting Harrison Phillips, Washington has been pushed further down the depth chart. Similar to Shaq Lawson, Washington is still young at age 23 and could garner a lower round draft pick if another team is willing to take a chance on him. Otherwise, Washington could see himself cut this offseason.
AJ McCarron/Nathan Peterman, quarterback
If Josh Allen manages to win the expected starting quarterback competition, that would make the third-place finisher in that competition liable to be traded or cut. Should another team lose their quarterback to injury in training camp or the during preseason, Beane could jump at the chance to trade McCarron or Peterman for picks or a valuable player. The Philadelphia Eagles were able to get a first round pick this way when they traded Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings after Teddy Bridgewater tore his ACL. McCarron/Peterman isn’t likely to get that kind of return, but it’s worth noting.
Marshall Newhouse/Jordan Mills, offensive tackle
The Bills have several battles brewing on the offensive line, particularly at right tackle. The loser of the battle could see himself traded, as neither tackle’s contract is very pricey. Although it’s difficult for Bills fans to picture other teams valuing Marshall Newhouse or Jordan Mills, one only has to look at the play of offensive tackles around the league. Certain teams could see even mediocre tackle play as an upgrade over what they currently have.
