Going into the new season, Sean McDermott announced his team captains for the Buffalo Bills following Friday’s practice.

As voted on by the players, the following will be captains for the 2019 season.

QB Josh Allen
LB Tremaine Edmunds
LB Lorenzo Alexander
OT Dion Dawkins
LS Reid Ferguson
K Stephen Hauschka

One notable omission was running back Frank Gore, who joined the team to provide a veteran presence and is now expected to have an even larger on-field impact, following the release of LeSean McCoy. Perhaps being in his first season with the team played into that decision, since all other captains have been on the team for at least one season.

Both Josh Allen and Tremaine Edmunds seemed like natural picks, being the young franchise building blocks of the offense and defense respectively. While not ultra common for a second year quarterback, Allen being selected appeared to be a move waiting to happen, with the amount his leadership has been discussed by both coaches and teammates throughout the offseason.

Dion Dawkins being named is a bit of a surprise, following an up and down second season. He has however, worked hard in the offseason to cement his role as a leader on the team and as the franchise left tackle.
