Less than 24 hours after trading for a linebacker, Buffalo added another on Wednesday.
Bills Insider Chris Brown provides the details. Here is his report:
Less than 24 hours after trading for a linebacker, Buffalo added another on Wednesday. The Bills signed free agent LB Ramon Humber a day after he was released by the New England Patriots.
Humber, 29, has largely been a special teamer and inside linebacker in his NFL career, which began with Indianapolis in 2009. He spent parts of six seasons with the New Orleans Saints, including three under Bills Assistant head coach Rob Ryan when he served as the Saints defensive coordinator.
Three of Humber’s four most productive seasons came under Rob Ryan in New Orleans. From 2013 to 2015, Humber appeared in 45 games logging 126 tackles, 2.5 sacks and three pass breakups.
Naturally his time under Rob Ryan gives him built-in familiarity with the Bills defensive scheme. Humber is seen as an inside linebacker and will likely fill the role left behind by the recently released David Hawthorne.
Bills release Gay
To make room on the roster for Humber the Bills released kickoff specialist Jordan Gay. Gay had been instrumental in Buffalo ranking as the best kick coverage unit in the league last season and third overall in 2014.
