Buffalo made a major deal with the Eagles on Friday acquiring a likely number one wideout in Jordan Matthews and a third-round pick in exchange for CB Ronald Darby.

The trade winds are blowing in Buffalo. On the heels of their preseason opener, the Bills dealt top cornerback Ronald Darby in exchange for WR Jordan Matthews and a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
Matthews, 6-3, 212, is entering his fourth NFL season after the Eagles made him a second-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft. In 46 career games, Matthews has 225 catches for almost 2,700 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Pegged as a starter in Philadelphia, Matthews is expected to help bolster Buffalo’s receiving corps with a proven weapon that offers size and precise route running.
Matthews is one of just five receivers to record 65 or more catches and 800 or more receiving yards in each of his first three NFL seasons along with Odell Beckham Jr, Mike Evans, A.J. Green, and Randy Moss.
Buffalo also acquired a third-round pick from the Eagles in the 2018 NFL draft. The draft capital now gives the Bills a pair of draft choices in round three.
Darby, a former second-round pick of the Bills, had two solid seasons for Buffalo, but was seen as an ideal match for a man-cover scheme. With the Bills shifting to more of a zone coverage scheme defensively, Darby’s on field value for Buffalo may not have been as high as it might be for other NFL clubs.
