Controversial legislation agreed to by leaders of the Republican and Democratic sides of the Monroe County Legislature has been vetoed by County Executive Adam Bello. The legislature has schedued a special meeting for Thursday evening for an override vote.
The legislation would have created six new full-time supervisor positions in the Monroe County Board of Elections, three to be filled by Republicans and three by Democrats. Bello said it would have added $500,000 a year to the county budget at a time when the county is facing serious budget cuts because of COVID-19 causing sales tax reduction.
Bello said the positions came without a job description or clearly defined duties, and all would be a direct chargeback to Monroe County taxpayers. He called it the wrong way of doing business.
