Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello’s countywide task force on so-called Zombie Properties has issued its first report, saying there are three steps we can take to reduce the impact of foreclosed and abandoned properties.
Bello says step one is not to let the problem get started by working to prevent foreclosures that led to properties being abandoned. Step Two: Identify the properties which are left unoccupied for long periods because of foreclosures and take steps to see they’re maintained. Finally, the report says rehab properties that have fallen through the cracks and become rundown.
Bello says the three-step approach is the only way to attack the problem.
Zombie Properties are buildings which are left vacant by foreclosure, and gradually fall to pieces while banks and lawyers argue in court over who should own them.
