Monroe County Executive Adam Bello has signed legislation aimed at curbing illegal use of off-road vehicles on the county’s roadways.

The bill allows sheriff’s deputies to impound dirt bikes and ATVs found being operated on county roads. It also requires the riders to wear helmets. It’s already illegal to ride dirt bikes and other off-road vehicles on roads meant for car and truck traffic.

Impound fees under the new law start at $500 for a first offense, and go up to $2,000 for subsequent offenses. The law takes effect in July.
