Governor Andrew Cuomo says a major recycling hub for lithium-ion batteries is being developed at Eastman Business Park.
The $175 million project is being developed by Li-Cycle Inc, a North America-based lithium-ion battery recovery company. Li-Cycle already has a smaller operation at the EBP, the former Kodak Park in Rochester. The governor’s office says Li-Cycle will put 100 new jobs into the new operation.
Lithium-ion batteries are now widely used in phones and electronic devices, electric cars and power tools. The electrolytes that make them work can be recovered and remanufactured for new use.
