A Batavia woman whose twin boys died in a fire after she left them home alone has pleaded “not guilty” on two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Heather Ace was in Batavia Town Court today. The judge placed her under the supervision of Genesee pre-trial services. She’s been ordered to to refrain from alcohol or drugs and will be undergo an evaluation. She will also be liable to home visits.
Ace was charged last month following an investigation into the death of Michael and Micah Gard. The two-year-old twins died of smoke inhalation in the fire on May 20th. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating what caused it.
Ace allegedly left the twins home alone for about 90 minutes, during which time the fire started.
