A Batavia woman has been sentenced to one year in jail after her two young boys died in a fire at her home.
The one year sentence for 25-year-old Heather Ace is the maximum for the charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Ace admitted to investigators she left the boys home alone while she went out to buy marijuana and drugs the night of the fire. She had left her older child with her parents, who lived next door, but locked her two-year-old twins in her apartment while she went out.
The fire tore through the first floor of the house, and both Micah and Michael Gard died of smoke inhalation.
