Former Rochester journalist Rachel Barnhart is exploring a run for Mayor of Rochester.
Barnhart ran an unsuccessful Democratic primary campaign against Assemblyman Harry Bronson this year. As a life-long city resident, Barnhart says she’s still looking for ways to address community problems including lack of opportunity.
Incumbent Mayor Lovely Warren hasn’t announced her intentions for next year, but many assume she will seek re-election, especially since last week’s announcement that Warren is ending the city’s unpopular red light camera program.
Barnhart says her decision will depend on many things other than Mayor Warren’s plans, including whether Jim Sheppard or other Democrats also want to run and what city Democratic committees might consider an alternative to the mayor.
