A Rochester man is charged with robbery, grand larceny, reckless endangerment and aggravated unlicensed operation after allegedly robbing a bank and trying to run down a Rochester police officer.
The officer fired at the vehicle as it sped toward her on Mellville Street. She wasn’t struck but was checked out at the hospital.
Police say the incident started when 46-year-old Robert Williams held up the M&T bank on East Avenue just before noon on Saturday. He threatened to shoot a bank teller, but never displayed a weapon.
Williams fled, with police officers in pursuit. They received information the suspect was in the Mellville Street area and approached a parked car which sped towards the officer as the driver fled. The car drove across some lawns and crashed into another car on Laurelton Road, which Williams fleeing on foot.
Williams was apprehended a short time later, and the stolen money was recovered.
