The death of a woman struck by a car while waiting for her bus in Irondequoit this morning is a big loss for the Baden Street Rec Center.
Bertha-Mae Brown taught generations of children how to swim at Baden Street.Rec Center Supervisor Pam Jackson says Brown was a dedicated teacher and had a knack for making kids realize they had potential. They say she’s irreplaceable.
Irondequoit Police say 64-year-old woman was dressed all in dark clothing and standing in the road next to the bus stop because of the snow bank. Police say the driver couldn’t see her in the pre-dawn darkness. They’re saying that driver probably won’t be facing any charges.
The Baden Street Aquatic Center will be renamed in Brown’s memory.
