The Bills offensive line had one oddity with it in Week 1. Perhaps this can explain Bleacher Report‘s latest thoughts on whom the Bills could add via free agency to help improve their roster early in the season.

Naming one potential free agent every NFL team should look at, B/R said the man for the Bills is offensive tackle Matt Kalil.

Here’s why B/R thinks so:

Injuries have derailed a once-promising career for left tackle Matt Kalil. The 2012 first-round pick was a Pro Bowler as a rookie but finished 2016 on injured reserve and missed all of 2018 after he underwent a knee scope.

Kalil was released by the Houston Texans after they acquired Laremy Tunsil.

The Buffalo Bills can afford to take a chance on him. They lost LaAdrian Waddle to a torn quad during training camp and are currently relying on the underwhelming trio of Dion Dawkins, rookie Cody Ford and Ty Nsekhe. Ford and Nsekhe split time at right tackle in the opener.

While there are worse tackle situations in the NFL, the Bills need to protect their investment in quarterback Josh Allen. If they could get Kalil to return to a high level of play, it would go a long way toward doing just that.

In Week 1, the Bills offensive line went from left to right as follows: Dawkins, Quinton Spain, Mitch Morse, Jon Feliciano, and a split. Rookie Cody Ford and Ty Nsekhe nearly both played half the snaps at right tackle, which is where Kalil could come in and settle things.

However, this seems like an unlikely move. If the Bills wanted to mix things up, they could move Ford to right guard, move out Feliciano, and keep Nsekhe at right tackle full time. Regardless if things stay the same or adjust, Buffalo’s offensive line looked better in Week 1 than it did for most of last season.
